The candidates should have passed Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (10+2) in five subjects including Chemistry, Biology and English Pre-Medical from any recognized University/ Board and the candidate should have attained the age of 17 years or more on December 31st of the year of admission.

Medical Laboratory Technology is one of the most in demand allied fields of Medicine. This is an Undergraduate Program which is concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases through the use of clinical laboratory tests. With the introduction of newer and better laboratory test every day for all the diseases, the Medical Lab technologists form a vital member of the health care team. He plays vital role in collecting the information needed to give the best care to an ill or injured patient. They work in an interesting and dynamic environment using high- tech instruments to analyze samples and generate information with accuracy and quality control which assists the healthcare professionals. The practice of modern medicine would be impossible without the tests performed in the laboratory. Future Scope: The scope for professionals in this course is very wide. They have almost an unlimited choice to practice in the setting of their own choice from a multi-speciality hospitals to clinics, nursing homes, public health facilities, and commercial laboratories. This course warrants great communication and research skills. Employment of clinical laboratory workers is expected to grow as the volume of laboratory tests increases with population growth. An all-round development of the students is ensured through the balanced blend of curricular and extracurricular activities. Class room teaching is made effective by the use of modern educational technology.
Job opportunities for MLT :
i) In hospitals they will be initially appointed as technologists and in time may be promoted as Laboratory manager, Lab supervisor, Lab In charge, Health care administrator, Health and safety officer.
ii) In Drug analysis lab they can work as drug safety officer where they can do drug testing, therapeutic drug monitoring.
iii) In Research labs they can work as analytical associate, technical associate and after PhD they can be appointed as scientists.
iv) In blood banks they can work as blood bank supervisors.
v) In Educational institutions they can work as coordinators, tutors or lecturers. If academically inclined one can pursue PhD and be promoted as Assistant Professor in educational institutions. Able candidates in due course of time can head a Paramedical institution.
vi) It is possible for BMLT holders to start their own clinical laboratory. This can be started, under the supervision of the pathologists.
